Sri Chinmoy has a close connection to Mother Kail. Mother Kali was the family deity of his family and Sri Chinmoy is very devoted to her.
"As for myself, I personally regard Kali as my dearest Mother. This aspect of the Divine is most dear to me. In India all families without exception have a family deity and our family deity is Kali. "

Before his weightlifting programs Sri Chinmoy always prays to Mother Kali for protection.
The popular representation of Mother Kali is her demonic image of Black and dripping blood. Sri Chinmoy says this is her vital aspect in which she is fighting the hostile forces. However Mother Kali is not just black she also has a beautiful form in which she appears in a golden form. Sri Chinmoy has composed many devotional poems and devotional songs in honour of Mother Kali.
Many of these devotional songs in honour of Kali are in the form of simple Bhajans. Bhajans are songs that are sung several times with the aspiration of invoking the particular Cosmic God or Godess.
